Meet Matt our Minister

Matt Levett

Matt joined us as our Minister here in Long Buckby in July 2025. Before he came to Long Buckby, his previous career has been varied and interesting. He worked in  different churches and denominations mainly in East Anglia.

Already he has brought his own particular brand of joy and enthusiasm to the church. He has 1001 stories of why he thinks that living for Jesus is a good thing!  He believes church life and the Christian faith should be fun, risky, hope filled and joy filled.

He not only leads the church here in its worship and learning but he loves teaching theology to everyone, including those who believe themselves to be ‘non-religious’. If you would like to talk to anyone about Jesus, talk to Matt!  He fervently believes that the local Church really is the hope for the world.  Matt is passionate about youth ministry and has devoted much of his life to working with young people in this country and in places in the world where the life of young people can be both dangerous and unloving.

However, he does still manage to have a life outside of church life and is an avid admirer of all things comic book. Superheroes are now very welcome at Long Buckby Baptist Church!  He loves films, he  loves good food, he loves the sea, Cornwall and open water ice swimming. He plays Risk – a lot.  He has an abiding interest in cryptozoology and yes, we have all had to look it up too. He has an encyclopaedic knowledge of the Eurovision Song Contest and manages to attend most years.
In his spare time, he helps run a charity for street kids in Latin America and gets out to Guatemala & Honduras whenever he can.

We are so pleased to have Matt as our minister. So many of his qualities help our church in its mission; his love of Jesus, his ability to bring the Bible to life in this modern world and his passion for the people of God.

Above all and perhaps most importantly, he wants churches to be places where everyone, including the unchurched, love to call home.
